Revitalizing Indigenous Law for Land, Air and Water
In 2017 Taku River Tlingit partnered with West Coast Environmental Law, joining the ReLAW Project to utilize Tlingit stories to create legal tools that will empower us to advocate for haa kusteeyí (our way of life) and protection of Lingít aaní (Our land).
Part of this project included conducting new interviews with Elders and Community Members. The Tlingit laws surfaced from these interviews as well as other research supports the creation of a TRT wildlife management policy to ensure that we are adhering to Tlingit law in how we interact with our land and its resources.
